Victoria Day (like Memorial Day next weekend in the U.S.) signals the beginning of the summer season. In Toronto that means an exodus to Cottage Country. Between Jarvis and Church Streets a magnificent sculpture is situated on a bright open space next the majestic Manulife Financial headquarters building. “Community,” is an impressive bronze sculpture consisting of 21 life-size figures, which according to Manulife, is a contemporary representation that uniquely reflects that leading financial services company's diversity and international reach. The sculpture is more than two metres high and measures more than eight metres in length. While it was commissioned by Manulife, to me it represents Toronto, a spectacularly successful city, the most diverse in the world.
